Feb 21st- 55+- INTRODUCTION TO ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE: A WAY TO CONNECT BODY AND MIND THROUGH AWARENESS, VISUALIZATION AND TOUCH – WITH JANE DORLESTER

In this workshop we will address such issues as what is distinctive of Alexander Technique? How is finding the delicate balance of the head on the spine having an effect on the rest of the body? What is the language of Alexander Technique, primary control, inhabitation, habitual response and directing? What sort of issues/conditions can this technique help us with? A talk and experiential workshop will answer these questions. No particular clothes or physical agility required. Brown-Bag (dairy/parve) Lunch and Learn. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1:00 to 3:00 at PSJC

Feb 18th- Get Acquainted Lunch

The next Get Acquainted Lunch will be after services and kiddush on Saturday, February 18th at the home of Helen, Lonnie, and Meira. The PSJC community is invited to share a pot-luck vegetarian-dairy lunch in a warm and gracious home. A host is needed for the March 17 Get Acquainted lunch. Please contact Gavrielle Levine if you would like to host.

Feb 11th- Parents Night Out- 7-10pm

Drop your kids off in the responsible hands of PSJC teens, and go out for
a night on the town! Teens, under the supervision of Dina Garfinkel (that’s me)
will be available for you between the hours of 7 pm and 10 pm. The price for
this night is a FLAT rate of $25 per family (max 3 kids). The event is for
children ages 3-10 (potty-trained please), and we will have many fun activities
planned!All the money raised will go to our Solar Cooker Project. Click here to sign up.

PSJC’s Passover Chocolate Sale

PSJC’s Passover Chocolate Sale fundraiser has begun! You can view the chocolate assortment and purchase online by using this order form, and then filling out the PSJC Passover Candy Sale form online.

Orders will be delivered to the shul for pick-up. This is a big fundraiser for the synagogue and we encourage you to participate, even if it is only one box of chocolates! Please order today! Orders are due February 29th. Contact Elisabeth Albert with questions.

Mar 10th- Shabbat Afternoon Book Discussion- Scenes from Village Life

Join us on March 10, 2012 after Kiddush when we will discuss Scenes
from Village Life by Amos Oz. BPL has 14 copies. Those wishing to
purchase a hard copy can receive a 10% discount at Community Books.
Ebook versions are available for purchase on-line in all formats from the
usual vendors. In late spring we’ll discuss The Little Bride by Anna Solomon.

Join us for a very special Friday night program this Friday, January 13. After a beautiful, musical Kabbalat Shabbat service led by Eden Wofsey, we’ll have a parve/dairy pot luck dinner and a talk on the subject of Justice, jointly presented by Rabbi Carie Carter and the Honorable Joseph E. Gubbay. Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend and the yahrtzeit of Avraham Joshua Heschel with an educational program on a topic that was a shared passion of those two clergy and the basis of their strong friendship. Bring a parve or dairy dish to share and hear what Carie and Joe have to say on a subject dear to us all. This program is also planned in memory of Cecelia Urban (Shimona bat Ephraim v’Chanah), z”l, whose practice it was to teach a lesson at PSJC on Friday night of this particular weekend.

PSJC Joins the Fight against Hunger

We’re continuing PSJC’s “Bring Your Can to Shul” Program. The plan: every time you enter the PSJC building, you bring a can or package of food, and we will arrange to have it delivered to local agencies (e.g. CAMBA, City Harvest, C.H.I.P.S). Annual Meeting – Sunday, January 8 at 3 pm

PSJC’s annual membership meeting will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2012 beginning at 3:00 pm at the synagogue. The main item of business will be the election of new Officers and Trustees and a proposed change to the PSJC By-laws. Brief remarks will be made by Rabbi Carter and by our President, Esther Schwalb, a financial report will be made by our Treasurer, Peter Holmes and opportunities for discussion will follow.

Please check your mail for an envelope from PSJC containing a letter from the president, nominees’ bios, an election ballot, and a separate ballot for the proposed change to the by-laws.

200+ guests came out to celebrate our progress at the ribbon-cutting party on Saturday! Thank you all. We were honored to have Pete Hamill join us for Havdalah, read from his book, and then regale us with stories from the old neighborhood. Together we said Shehechianu, cut the ceremonial ribbon and reveled in our beautiful new Social Hall. Food, drink and dance music aplenty, the party was fabulous! Todah Rabah to our wonderful volunteers who made the evening a success. Thank you to our generous contributors who sponsored the festivities (Click here for the revised list of sponsors).
