Prayer

Tefilah at PSJC
Our services are grounded in traditional liturgy and familiar melodies, complemented by contemporary forms of religious expression. Our goal is to make the synagogue accessible and comfortable to people who have varying degrees of familiarity with traditional prayer. Learners’ minyan is held twice a month for those interested in learning more about the traditional Shabbat morning service.

Our commitment to egalitarianism, equal participation for men and women, has led us to new pathways of experiencing Judaism and Jewish community life. At PSJC, equality in Judaism means that every Jew can receive the honor of being called to, and reading from, the Torah. We encourage everyone to learn and to lead all parts of the traditional prayer services, including giving divrei torah (sermons/discussions), since, along with Rabbi Carter, congregants lead different portions of our Shabbat services each week.
