Wednesday

Each Wednesday morning from 7:15-8am, we gather to daaven (pray) shacharit (the morning service).  Morning minyan is a great opportunity to daaven at PSJC in a nice intimate setting and to help provide a minyan for people needing to say kaddish for a loved one.  Stay and shmooze as long as you’d like, but we promise to have you out the door by 8am to catch the subway to work!

In addition to Wednesday morning minyan, we have minyan each Rosh Chodesh as a way of starting off the month right.  Join us for Rosh Chodesh minyan at 7am.

Learner’s Minyan

If you are interested in learning more about Shabbat services, our Learner’s Minyan may be just right for you.  It is held monthly on Shabbat morning beginning at 10:30am. The Learner’s Minyan provides a more intimate setting in which to ask questions and learn about various aspects of the Shabbat service.  Led by our Rabbinic Intern, Aaron Weininger, it is geared towards adults in the process of converting to Judaism, as well as those who are Jewish by birth but have questions about the meaning behind the dance of Jewish prayer.  For more information, please contact Rabbi Carter

Junior Congregation

Give your kids a chance to create their own community – PSJC’s Junior Congregation, where children 8-12 years old learn, lead services, practice Bar/Bat Mitzvah skills and spend time with their friends. Led by PSJC members Helene Santo and Nir Sadovnik, this informal, participatory service meets weekly at 10:30am throughout the school year, and offers kids a lively and active forum in which to celebrate Shabbat and holidays, including special services for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur.

For more information about programs for children ages 8-12, or to find out more about PSJC’s family programming, please call the PSJC office at 718.768.1453. To be added to the family programming e-mail list, please contact the family programming committee .

Mini Minyan and Tot Shabbat

Children from 3-7 years old have their own Shabbat service at 11:15am each Shabbat morning during the school year.  A professional Jewish music educator leads fun singing, dancing, storytelling and learning, with participation from parent volunteers. Each service ends with a family kiddush. Families also have fun at periodic potluck lunches following the service.  Rabbi Carter and the rabbinic intern join the mini-minyaneers on a regular basis.  Each service ends with a family Kiddush.  Families also have fun at periodic potluck lunches following the service.

On High Holidays PSJC offers special childrens’ services for kids aged 3-5 (Tot Tefillah) and 5-7 (Mini-Minyan), led by a dynamic Jewish educator and talented musician. The timing of all children’s programming is coordinated with adult services in the main sanctuary.  For details of this schedule, please see High Holidays at PSJC (April please make this a link)
